Recently we had the Blue Dragon unofficial open source native PC release, and we also have one for another Xbox classic with Lost Odyssey. I know a good few readers have been waiting on this one.

Just like other unofficial releases - it does not come with the game data to keep the lawyers away. You need to supply your own copy of the game for it to work.

From the release notes for v0.5.14:

  • The main binary now provides the installer and updater in one place, with safer DLC import failure handling, reliable scan and retry behavior, exact apply-mode argument handling, Linux XDG profile paths, extracted-DLC trailing-separator scanning, and AppImage dependency filtering.
  • Linux x64 AppImage is available alongside the Windows x64 ZIP, with the embedded installer/updater and XDG user data paths. AppImage gameplay and in-place updating remain unverified; complete Steam Deck compatibility is not established.
  • CPU waiting paths now use condition-variable notifications in place of the former polling loops. Focused verification is retained in the historical development record.
  • Real network updates, AppImage gameplay or update runs, complete UI import, and full-game validation remain unverified.

One thing I did spot is Claude in the Contributors list - it's not clear how far their AI usage goes. And I don't see it actually noted how it's being used. So if that's a sticking point for you - it's worth noting.
