Dragon Quest Monsters: The Withered World Gameplay Trailer Showcases Monster

Square Enix has released the official gameplay trailer for Dragon Quest Monsters: The Withered World, highlighting the generalities of the narrative premise and gameplay mechanics. 

Dragon Quest Monsters: The Withered World follows fledgling monster wranglers Bianca and Nera. Players recruit monsters from throughout the Dragon Quest series, raise them, develop their talents, and assemble parties for turn-based battles.

Individual monsters have their own traits and attributes alongside talents that can be developed to suit different party compositions. The returning synthesis system lets players combine two monsters to produce a stronger creature, including monsters that may not otherwise be encountered through normal recruitment.

Monsters also accompany Bianca and Nera during exploration rather than appearing solely during battles. Any recruited monster can travel alongside the party regardless of its type or size.

Online multiplayer gives assembled teams another use. Players can battle other monster wranglers through several modes, ranging from competitive tournaments to friendly matches. Certain competitions will also offer prizes based on performance.

Dragon Quest Monsters: The Withered World will be released for Switch, Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam and Windows on December 3, 2026. A free demo is live.
